learning & imagination

Josh loves to learn. If I have said it once, I am sure I have said it a million times. So after a yummy lunch, we decided to go somewhere new this afternoon and headed to the Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah.

There were a lot of different animal habitats in one area of the museum. Josh even checked out what it was lik to be a duck.

Josh examined the huge dino footprint. It was a big as him! He learned about different human habitats, like the teepees and mud shelters. He also learned about mining and the beautiful gems of the world.

The sucker mom that I am, we stopped by the gift store on our way out. Josh didn't want any of the cheesey plastic toys, no he found a book about Explorers. He was facinated by the stories of exploring different areas and habitats of the world. As soon as we got home, he wanted to do some exploring of his own. We set up base camp on the porch (thank goodness for the warm day!). He got his exploring tools. He created a explorer's journal. And he was off exploring the yard or better said the mountains looking for Yetis.

The mountain he conquered.
What a FUN and IMAGITATIVE afternoon!

toepick!

So Mims & I were so excited to get bug into hockey. His school buddy, Connor, was signing up for Hockey and I thought, huh, well that sounds fun and Josh runs around on the ice like it nothing. What a MAJOR difference a toe pick makes. Josh has never been in hockey skates, only figure skates. I was dying as he tried to cross the ice to the middle of the ring to meet his new teammates. He could barely stay on his feet. You would have thought the kid has never been on skates in his life! Needless to say, hockey lasted about 15 mintues. Guess a few lessons using hockey skates are in order first.

its a bowling day

Its Wednesday and a smoggy yucky one at that. Josh & I had a difficult time trying to think of something fun to do that wasn't a repeat. Josh could live at the planetarium if I let him! Then it came to me. Pizza Factory & bowling. Josh dug right into his yummy breadstick.

Then we headed right over to the bowling lanes. Josh did awesome. He bowled a 97 and a 90 on his own. He even got 2 strikes & 1 was without the bumpers. I haven't been bowling in forever and we had a blast.

LOOK AT THE FORM!!!

Happy Valentines Day!

The holidays are so much more fun as a kid...all the excitement and joy around celebrations. Josh's class had their valentine party this morning. I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time helping at the cookie decoration station and enjoying all the kid giggles and excitement. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

100th day of school

Febuary 13th was the 100th day of school. Josh was excited for the different counting activities they were going to be doing. He also ate lunch at the cafeteria for the first time. He was super excited about that, using his own money, caring his tray, etc. His teacher also told me that he ate his chicken nuggets (surprise, surprise) with sweet & sour sauce. That was a first!

For our activity, we hit the movies....the pirates who don't do anything; A VeggieTales Movie. Josh loved it, I caught a few z's. Then we battled the weather to make it home. It was an overall fun Wednesday.

Bonneville Family Week

Is there anything better than an a chicken nugget lunch date? I would say no! Bonneville parents were invited to have lunch with the students. It was a noisey fun break in my day.

Bonneville Family Week

I am so excited for this week. Not only is it Valentines, so LOVE is in the air, its family week at Bonneville. That means zero homework from the teachers and lots of family fun planned by the PTA. Tonight was a great start to the week. Bonneville rented the Gallivan Center and we all got to go ice skating, which of course is one of Josh's favorite activities.
My parents came and were able to skate for half a second with us, until my mom got bombarded by the elementary school kids. She is like celebrity to them!

Josh probably had the most fun skating with his cousin Makio and his classmate Thomas. It is so fun to see how his social skills (yes that is my 'work talk' coming out) are developing. I can't wait for the other activities this week.

Happy Chinese New Year!

It is Chinese New Year today and after Josh spent the day learning about the holiday, we were lucky enough to go with the Monsen's to Joyluck for a yummy meal and a chinese celebration.

Josh's favorite part...not the food...but feeding the dragon the the red envelope filled with cash.

wednesday play

Wednesday was another fun filled afternoon. We started with meeting my sister Heidi and my nephew Dylan for lunch at Cafe Rio. Sorry Heidi, I somehow deleated the picture of you three off my phone.

After lunch we headed over to Babies r Us to do some shopping. Dylan had a lot of new things to try out. He was all smiles.
We then headed to one of Josh's favorite places, the dino museum at Thanksgiving Point. We had a fun time checking out a few new places in the museum.

There was a room just about animation with some amazing displays.

We found a section upstairs that was all hands on. Josh got to put together his own t-rex. Then he moved to the color section to discover different fossils and shells.

We had a blast and Josh, of course, was all poses!

music must have

Sheryl Crow is by far one of my all time favorite musicians. Her new cd Detours is going to be up at the top of my favorite lists as one of the best of all time...already I can tell. I just got it last night, listened to it through once and would compare it easily to my current favorite of her's Tuesday Night Music Club. I highly recommend Detours! Sheryl Crow rocks.

weekend fun

It has been a great weekend...started Friday night with dinner & Utah gymnastics. I was able to meet up with some friends, Mims, Denice, Laurie, & Deanne for some yummy mexican food from Tres Hombres. We then headed over to the Huntsman Center for a thriller...Utah killed Minnesota with the best score of the year, for any team. They are now in 1st place!

This so doesn't look as neat on film, but in person AMAZING!

Saturday consisted of lots of games with my family. My little brother just moved into a new place with one of his buddies. It was fun to enjoy some of his excitment with a new place of his own.
Sunday, well there was some snow for sure. The morning consisted of staying bundled in the covers, but towards superbowl time, I headed up to Deanne's house for potato bar and the game. We even had time to learn a new card game called Jerk.
It is time to get back to the weekly grind!
