its wednesday

After the amazing performance Josh did today, I wasn't sure any activity could top it. However, according to Josh, any and all trips to build a bear are successful. We got a new car for his build a bear friends and came home and played museum. Then we headed to Spaghetti Mamas for some dinner. We had a good time. He is definitely my little buddy.

Josh's school performance

Josh's kindergarten performance was this afternoon. Yesterday the kindergarten was able to perform for the Bonneville students and today was for the parents. Josh was so excited. For weeks, he has been counting down and then saying he had stage fright. He was convinced he had it even before he got up to sing!
He and his classmates did an excellent job. It was so cute to hear them sing at the top of their lungs. They kept looking for their parents and waving during the whole performance.

Josh was in the front row new to Abi and Simon. His teacher, Mrs. Speigal turned around for the picture too.

2nd at Nationals

The utes were unable to pull out the win in Georgia. They took 2nd place for the 3rd year in a row against the bulldogs. They lost by the very small margin .325. It was a total bummer. However, Ashley Postell did pull out a VERY high all around score with 3 9.95's and 1 9.90. Maybe they can pull through with the big title next year.

gymnastic nationals

Ashley Postell has reason to smile after winning the all around competition tonight in the first round of the gymnastic national championships. Utah advanced to the final round, which starts tomorrow at 7pm eastern time, with Georgia and Standford. I couldn't find who won from the first session today, but I am sure whoever did will bring it tomorrow. I hope Utah can pull it out a title this year! GO UTES!

a fancy haircut

So every kid at some point tries out the scissors on his or her own head. Josh to this point had not tried that one. Last night, he decided he needed a haircut. Every night after his shower, he combs his hair. He followed the same routine, but as I was looking at him I realized he had cut a piece of his hair. I asked him about it and his response, 'I put the hair in the trash mom'. It was so funny. It just makes me giggle. Tonight we went and got his hair fixed. Josh said to me, 'I just wanted to be able to do it spikey!' His wish has been granted.

bonneville art show

Bonneville hosted an art show this evening that was fantastic. All the students at Bonneville have been participating in art class and each grade made some amazing things. This was Josh's masterpiece. He did a good job!

book review

Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father, Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiancĂ©, and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons. But as she plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can’t recall. And when a policemen arrives to disclose a truth that will upend the world as she knows it, Delia must search through these memories – even when they have the potential to devastate her life, and the lives of those she loves most. Vanishing Acts is a book about the nature and power of memory; about what happens when the past we have been running from catches up to us… and what happens when the memory we thought had vanished returns as a threat.
I LOVE THIS AUTHOR! I would highly recommend any of her books. She takes very difficult 'black & white' topics and really makes the reader thing which way you would fall out if in the situation.

field trip to the zoo (its wednesday!)

Josh's kindergarten class had a field trip today to the zoo. Perfect that it fell on a Wednesday! I was very excited to be able to go and be a parent helper especially since I had missed the first field trip this year.
We road on the school bus. That was a ride! Josh sat next to his buddy Ian.
We got to the zoo and were praying that the weather would hold out. There were TONS of kids from a number of different schools out to see the zoo.

All the kids had made animal bingo cards to check off as we went through the zoo. Josh and Ian both got a bingo. Then the rain started and it continued the majority of the day. We were drenched! We stopped for lunch and fortunately, the rain slowed down and almost stopped for the last 30 minutes. 2 other classmates, Carson and Hunter, joined our group after lunch and the boys enjoyed monkeying around at the gorilla house. It was fun despite the rain. I love being able to help out in Josh's class!

fun in the sun

Michelle & I decided we needed a breather and headed to her parents condo in St. George. We had a very relaxing weekend which was just what the doctor ordered. We left after work on Friday night and spent Saturday enjoying a GORGEOUS day of sun. I was very ready for the first 'sun kiss' of the season! Mims did a little work on the yard, I read my book (of course) and got as much sun as I could. Sunday afternoon we headed backto the real world. Really, it was just a relaxing weekend away from home!

the cutest kid ever...

long life friendships

Is there anything better than your life long girlfriends? I would have to say no. Friendships that
develop early on in life are so simple and natural and comfortable to be in. Nikki, thanks for your love and friendship. The memories I share with you are close to my heart.

happy birthday dinner

JoyLynn had a birthday and Crown Burger visit was in order to celebrate. Deanne, Cobey, Kelli, Michelle, Josh, & I had a tasty dinner. A few other joined as well. We enjoyed the company and the food!

the little guide

Josh LOVES to take the lead in anything he feels comfortable with. This week we went back to the aquarium and Josh was THRILLED to be able to show Michelle 'his territory'.

A smile in front of the bull frogs.

movie review

Josh and I did the movie thing for our Wednesday activity this week. We went to see Dr. Seuss (& Jim Carrey's) Horton Hears A Who. What a cute movie! So many lessons about how to treat people and about faith. Josh hopefully got some of that, but giggled through most of it. We would recommend taking your families!

everything military

Josh has worked very hard to sleep in his room all night for the past week. So far he has added up 6 straight nights where he has gone to sleep in his bed and stayed there. It is the first time ever...let me tell you how much better I am sleeping! He has been earning things for his efforts. Last night he earned some AWESOME army posters. Michelle's brother Jason pulled out all the stops and Josh couldn't wait to get them up on his walls. Thanks Jason! Josh is super excited about the room he has created. I think he might actually be staying from now on!

movie review

I went and saw 21 The Movie this weekend. I don't make it to 'grown up' movies very often and it was definitely a treat. I thought it was good and worth seeing.

exploring the aquarium

Josh & I had once went to the Aquarium when it was at the Gateway Mall. In case any of you missed it at that location...you missed nothing! It has since moved to 10600 South and 700 East. I was a bit leery, but given how cold it was outside today, Josh & I tried to give it another shot in it new location and fortunately we were not disappointed.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering what Josh would like in a mustache, here you go. he didn't take it off all afternoon!

The 'hands on feel the fish' displays still exists as well as the shark tank. However, the new aquarium also has a section dedicated to Utah water with a captain's fish boat to explore. There is a display saved for the coral reefs and the amazing fish that live there. Lastly, there is a true to life display where Josh was able to run around a sunken ship, crawl through a coral reef, and enjoy some smaller creatures in tanks through the kid area. It was actually pretty fun!
